Diverse Hietasaari
The Hietasaari area is an area of land reclamation with lush vegetation, old parks and gardens, old lace cottages and gardens, and a recreational and outdoor area. The area offers an opportunity to discover the different vegetation zones of the seashore, coastal meadows, coastal forests, fresh and deciduous forests and a rich birdlife.
From the 1850s onwards, Hietasaari became a villa community, as Oulu's wealthy bourgeoisie moved their boats, livestock and servants to Hietasaari to escape the summer heat. Old villas can still be found on the island today. Some of the villas are used as private residences, while others have been renovated, for example for rental purposes. Hietasaari, which is constantly evolving, still serves as an attractive summer destination in the region, with Nallikari sandy beach and its services providing a setting for sun worshippers from near and far. Hietasaari offers accommodation and restaurants, activities for all tastes and nature trails with birdwatching towers and campfire sites. The nature trails are suitable for both walkers and cyclists and are maintained all year round!
